Compare Contrast Essay after Watching "Brave"

In the movie "Brave", Merida was forced to marry. However, since Merida did not want to engage with a person she did not really love, she tried to change her fate. She asked for helps to a witch to produce a potion to converse her mother's attitude towards her fate. Unfortunately, the potion just transferred her mother into a monster-like, ferocious bear. Regretting her deeds profoundly, Merida searched for a solution to help her mother return to her status. Eventually, Merida discovered the solution:mending the tapestry she had devastated before. With great focus, Merida repaired the tapestry, and her mother's phase changed to her original self. After watching the movie, I realized the difference between Merida and me.

First, Merida has the courage to innovate her fate. When her parents told her to marry one of the three candidates, she knew that life will become miserable if she engaged to a person she did not love. Also, she recognized that the tradition was not the best way to keep the region Merida was living peaceful, so she rejected. At this point, I was so thrilled because I often just do something because my friends or teachers tell me to do so without regarding the consequences at all. Further on, there are even some issues I do not give my though even though I realize that it is crucial for me to care and seriously consider. So, I really envy and want to mimic Merida's courage and confidence towards her own life.

Second, Merida easily admits that she did a wrongdoing if she truly indicates her mistake. To be specific, she asked for forgiveness to her mother when she found out that it was wrong and selfish to to think that her mother was not there when she was needed. For me, it is really difficult to just state that I committed a big mistake. For instance, when I fought with my friend because I had teased her, I did not consider others' feelings and just quarreled that it was just a  joke. Nonetheless, while I was watching Merida's voyage, it was sure that it was I who had committed a wrong deed. Merida shows more maturity than I do.
However, even though Merida has her independence and maturity, I think she does not have patience. She should have waited a little bit before her visit to the witch. If she explained the reason slowly to her mother, the queen could have been able to understand her. As for me, I tell my mother the reason critically and sometimes she agrees to me and sometimes I agree to her and alter my thoughts. So, I think I have more forbearance compared to Merida.

In conclusion, I desire to resemble Merida's bravery and maturity, but I feel pride that I have a bit more of patience than Merida. Still, except forbearance, Merida teaches me a grand lesson of consistence.

  2. Seoyoung,

This is a good compare/contrast essay. You need to review using prepositions like to and for, however. Try to spell check your work before posting it as well. Keep up the good work!
